Sundays in Paris (My favorite)

Sunday’s in Paris are my absolute favorite. Honestly, Sundays, in general, are my favorite but adding my favorite city into the mix really tops it off. There is nothing I love more than gardens, reading, naps, and food. Those are some of my favorite things in the entire world, truly. So, every Sunday, my roommate and I would head to our local market. Which we waited patiently for every single week. The food at the market, the smiling faces, and the experience were all more lively and exciting than any Walt Disney World experience could ever be.

Maybe this market isn’t everyone’s favorite, but for me, it’s my favorite. I met amazing friends and had the time of my life picking out bread, salami, cheese, and fruits and meeting new people. Sunday mornings are for sleeping in, but not in apartment 105. We were up early and got ready for the market as if we were about to make the most iconic entrance. Preparing my French, getting my game face on, a spray of Gucci Flora, and my favorite tote bag, we were ready to conquer the market.

I think one of the reasons I loved the market so much was the familiar faces and smiles. I loved saying hi to our new friends and hearing the fruit boys get so excited that the American girls (his cuties, as he called us) were indeed back again. I think after the fourth week is when they started really giving us a weird look and finally, some “why are you guys still here” started to occur, and, of course, we were so excited to announce we were working in Paris for the summer. Literally happy to just exist in the city; we would walk in circles in the market, especially if we got nervous. Too nervous to talk to the bread man? Totally okay just take a few laps and head back again. As discrete as I always think I’m being, we always were quite noticed, even on days that I was sure that I could pass as French. Although aside from the obvious, it’s hard to pass as French when the market practically announces the American girls are indeed back again. The grandma’s giving me winks as I order my bread, the boys handing me flowers when I order strawberries, and my roommate and I making a million loops, always made my day.

Where?

The market I’d always go to is on the metro one line! Get off at Saint Mandé, exit 6, and across the street on Sundays is this wonderful little market.

Post Market Fun - Jardin du Luxembourg

After the market, we always brought our new goodies to Jardin du Luxembourg. My favorite place in all of Paris. We brought our picnic blanket, favorite books, and just enjoyed the moment. I was always starving by the time we got to the garden, and one time I was so excited that I almost took a bite out of our baguette from Sofia’s bag. She thankfully kept it away from me, but wow, the food here is just different, truly. So by the time we had taken the train and set up our picnic, I was ready to eat.

My favorite was the truffle salami, with the baguette and a bite of strawberry after. I felt like I was Remi in Ratatouille, and at that moment, no one could convince me I wasn’t amazing with food. We’d enjoy our meal, read a little and take a nap. Naps in the garden were always the best; getting woken up by giggles, happy families, and music always made me so thankful to be there.

Fun Fact about Luxembourg

  • The garden is free! It is a beautiful spot to run, exercise, play tennis, do yoga, and bring your family or friends! In the summer, they usually always have music playing of some sort, the sailboat pond is a hit, and there is always a spot to read, nap, relax, and enjoy!
